Methods of Meditation
How to Meditate
There are many different meditation methods that have evolved over many years, more about meditation techniques later, but they can all be categorised by the form that the meditation process takes.
There are six main meditation methods:
1 - Focused
Focused Meditation concentrates, in a relaxed open way, on a chosen object. This may be a candle flame, a crystal or a deity.
2 - Visualization
Visualization Meditation is when you imagine going on a journey or when you meet a spirit guide or animal.
3 - Guided
Guided Meditation is where you listen to a pre-recording of the meditation. The voice will guide you on the steps taking during this method of meditation and there will usually be accompanying music on the track as well.
4 - Transcendental
Transcendental Meditation, also known as (TM) became very popular in the 1960s due to the Beatles interest in the technique. This form of meditation consists of continually repeating a mantra to induce the meditative state.
5 - Listening
Listening Meditation is a process in which you keep your eyes open and listen to what is occuring around you. The objective is to remain alert and aware of your surroundings.
6 - Buddhist
Buddhist Meditation put a greater focus on the breathe than the other forms of meditation. (Please note that all forms use breathe awareness.) In this method of meditation the focus is on the inhalation and exhalation of the breathe.
