What is Thai Massage
Thai Massage (Traditional Thai Massage or Thai Yoga Massage) evolved from massage techniques used by the Egyptians, Greeks and Chinese. The origins come from the Ayurvedic medicine discipline and yoga, which originated in India, and was introduced to Thailand about 2,500 years ago.
Jivaka Kuma Bhacca is the founder of Thai Massage.
How does Thai Massage work?
Thai Massage uses the 10 major meridians (energy lines) running around the body. Techniques used in the massage include reflexology, yoga and acupressure. By facilitating the energy to flow freely around the body, blockages can be removed and the mind, body, spirit balance can be restored.
Thai Massage utilises compression and stretching of the muscles in a gentle, rocking, rhythmic way, plus point pressure on certain points on the meridians. Two kinds of movements are carried out: the first is a type of yoga movement, the second is a consistent, deep pressure applied to nerves, tendons and ligament which help to balance the body's functions.
