What is Solution Therapy
Solution Therapy (Solution Focuses Brief Therapy) is a talking therapy that focuses on a solution. It was first developed as a therapy in its own right in the 1950s.
Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), often referred to as simply 'solution focused therapy' or 'brief therapy', is a type of talking therapy that is based upon social constructionist philosophy. It focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem(s) that made them to seek help. The approach does not focus on the past, but instead, focuses on the present and future
How does Solution Therapy work?
Solution Therapy focuses on what the client wishes to achieve through the therapy and not on the problem that caused them to seek help. The therapist encourages the client to visualise their desired future and helps them to detail moves towards this goal. The therapy very much concerns the positive, using the client's strengths and abilities to envision the future, analysis of the past and present is avoided.
The therapist/counselor uses respectful curiosity to invite the client to envision their preferred future and then therapist and client start attending to any moves towards it whether these are small increments or large changes. To support this, questions are asked about the client’s story, strengths and resources, and about exceptions to the problem.
What does Solution Therapy treatment involve?
A session normally lasts about an hour. The number of sessions depends on the individual.
The therapist will take notes on medical details and then start the process. A number of specifically, structured questions are asked in order to assist the client in focusing on their future.
What can Solution Therapy help?
Low self-esteem, confidence, confusion, life changing situations, career issues, relationship problems, general health and well being.
