What is Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a hands on therapy which focuses on the structure of the body in order to assist the mind, body, spirit balance.
Osteopathy was developed over 100 years ago by Andrew Still, a Doctor in the American Civil War. He had always cleared his own headaches by cracking his neck, and so reasoned that the spine was the source of good health. This lead to him beginning to investigate the manipulation of the joints which he believed would release the blockages which prevented the body's abilities to heal itself.
How does Osteopathy work?
By realigning the body in its correct form, by massaging and manipulation, stress and tension is released.
What does Osteopathy treatment involve?
An appointment usually lasts about 40 minutes. Follow up sessions are usually shorter.
After an initial discussion, the Osteopath will visually assess any muscle and structural problems and then use specific hands on techniques to correct any problems. A number of follow up appointments are usually needed to assess progress, the actual number will depend on the complexitiy of the condition.
What can Osteopathy help?
General health and wellbeing, structural and postural problems, muscle and joint pain, endometriosis, circulation problems, accident trauma including whiplash injuries and headaches.
