What is Non-violent Communication
Non-violent communication (NVC or compassionate communication) is a talking therapy developed by Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960s and 70s.
How does Non-violent Communication work?
Non-violent Communication is based on the principles of non violence: the natural state of compassion when no violence is present in the heart.
The principle begins by asssuming that all of us are compassionate by nature and that strategies that involve violence (physical or verbal) are behaviour patterns that are learnt from and supported by the surrounding culture. It also advocates that all of us share the same basic human needs and that the actions we carry out are, in fact, a strategy to satisfy one or more of these basic needs.
What does Non-violent Communication treatment involve?
The Non-Violent Communication method is usually taught either in a one to one situation or in a group.
The length and number of sessions varies depending on the way the system is taught.
What can Non-violent Communication help?
Clearer communication, conflict resolution, increased empathy and understanding.
