What is Music Therapy
Music Therapy uses the senses in order to heal the body.
Music Therapy has been used for many years; there are references in the Bible to the healing effects of the mood of Saul when David played his harp (1 Samuel 16:23).
It is grounded in the belief that everyone can respond to music, no matter how ill or disabled. The unique qualities of music as therapy can enhance communication, support change, and enable people to live more resourcefully and creatively.
How does Music Therapy work?
The belief is that everyone can respond to music, no matter how ill or disabled, or how young or old.
By using music, the client engages in a deeply personal, guided journey, which will involve a greater understanding of themself. The Music Therapist will choose the most appropriate form of music to help the client, which will then be used as a discussion tool, a movement aid or for relaxation.
The senses used can aid the client heal themself through the medium of the music. For example, listening to a piece of music can help the client relax, discussing a piece of music can help the client to learn to express themself in gentle but extremely effective way.
