What is Floating
A therapy that involves lying in a tank containing 10 inches of super-saturated salt solution, creating an environment similar to the Dead Sea which enables the individual to float effortlessly on the surface.
How does Floating work?
The water is heated to skin temperature (93.5 degrees) so that once settled, it is virtually impossible to distinguish between parts of the body that are in contact with the water, and those that aren't, in effect "fooling" the brain into believing that the person is floating in mid-air.
In a normal environment, a large amount of brain-power is used every second to deal with the huge strain that gravity places on one's body. During floating the body is totally supported, there is little for the brain to do and every muscle is allowed to totally relax.
The logical side of the brain can then relax as the activity it normally has to perform slows down until synchronicity occurs with the creative side making the client feel incredibly relaxed.
What does Floating treatment involve?
Each client uses an individual tank situated in a lockable private room. There is a shower for use before and after the session. The tank has a light inside for those who prefer not to be in the dark and the door to close the tank may be left open if preferred.
After an initial shower, the client enters the tank, usually for the first few minutes music is played, there then follows a period of 50 minutes of silence followed by music being played again to signify the end of the session. Another shower will then be needed to remove the salt. Due to the saline nature of the solution, it is advisable not to shave on the day of the session.
What can Floating help?
Promotes total calm and peaceful relaxation, improves sleep, alleviates stress (mental and physical), eliminates fatigue and jet lag, energises, rejuvenates and revitalises.
