What is Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy developed out of Cranial Osteopathy and is now a therapy in its own right.
Craniosacral Therapists have no Osteopathy training. The therapy was founded by Dr John Upledger, an American Osteopath and physician who realised that a large amount of the cranial work could be taught and carried out by people with no background in osteopathy.
How does Craniosacral Therapy work?
Craniosacral therapists are trained to feel the very subtle, rhythmical shape change, called Involuntary Motion or the Cranial Rhythm, that is present in all body tissues. If this rhythm is not flowing smoothly, the client may be experiencing, for example tension. By correcting the rhythm, the body will revert to its natural state and the symptoms will be allieviated.
What does Craniosacral Therapy treatment involve?
Many Craniosacral Therapists combine their work with regression therapy, guided imagery, visualization or counselling.
Appointments begin with detailing symptoms and then, depending on the therapy, the craniosacral therapy will be combined with the other therapy. Length of appoints vary according to the complementing therapy.
What can Craniosacral Therapy help?
Many conditions can be helped including headaches, sleep problems and general well-being issues.
