What is Art Therapy
The creative use of art materials: chalk, pastels, paint, clay or oils, in order to gain a better understanding of deeper issues. It was developed as a therapy in the 1940s.
How does Art Therapy work?
By creating the artwork, the client brings to the surface many deep emotions which may have been covered up for many years. The actual act of creating the art is also very theraputic.
What does Art Therapy treatment involve?
The client creates the artwork, subject of their choice and using the medium they prefer. This can either be carried out in a supervised environment or in their own time.
The creation is then used as a tool for discussion.
What can Art Therapy help?
As a medium for communication for stressed clients by revealing hidden emotions and feelings in the art work, which a qualified therapist can use to better understand the client.
