What is Acupressure
Also known as Shiatsu, the Chinese Taoist monks used Acupressure over 5,000 years ago. It means "finger pressure". The theories behind it involve acupuncture, moxibustion (burning of the mugwort herb to aid healing) and herbology. It is practised widely in Japan and China.
How does Acupressure work?
Acupressure uses the energy lines in the body. Similar to acupuncture but without the needles.
Everything is related to the five elements which correspond to parts of the body:
Heart = Fire
Kidneys = Water
Spleen = Earth
Lungs = Metal
Liver = Wood
Acupressure balances the body's life energy by using finger pressure in the meridians (the body's energy lines). The therapist may also use their elbow, knee or feet to put pressure on the points. It can also detect energy imbalances before any symptoms appear. Can be used as a preventative therapy.
What does Acupressure treatment involve?
Consultation length - up to an hour. Amount of appointments needed will vary.
Avoid food, alcohol and hot baths for an hour before and after the visit.
Details taken about lifestyle in general, health problems and medical history.
By using touch the therapist will diagnose the areas lacking in energy.
The client will have to undress to their underwear and will lie under towels for the treatment which will involve pressure being placed on key parts of the body.
Little talking during the session and the treatment.
What can Acupressure help?
Can treat an extensive range of health problems, especially depression, fatigue, bowel problems, headaches, tension and back problems. Also works well as a preventative therapy.
